I was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. My parents are Mary and Henrik Melén. My mother is American and my father is a naturalized citizen from Sweden. I am fortunate to be a dual citizen and enjoy spending time in both countries.
I moved to Frisco, Texas when I was 5 years old. Shortly there after, I began playing soccer at the Frisco Youth Soccer Association. While playing for the Orange Crush, I had my first opportunity to play in goal, and there was no turning back. I immediately set my goals to be a keeper in the World Cup and to play College Soccer.
My parents gave me the wonderful opportunity to play Academy Soccer and I joined the Dallas Texans Soccer Club. This was very fortuitous, as that was where I met my Goal Keeper Coach, and now my High School Coach, Jeremy Morse. I trained with Coach Morse weekly from that day forward, with extra sessions during school breaks and summer. I eventually joined the ranks of Select Soccer and my soccer has continued to grow from there.
My first year of Select was in my 2001 age group, but the following years I played up in the 2000 age group. I always enjoyed the extra challenge the older girls presented. However, last year, with the adjustments made due to age pure, I decided to return to my own age group and was very excited to be playing for the Dallas Texans 01 Girls Dallas Coached by Ian Farley. We competed in the Lake Highlands Girls Classic League Division 1, finishing in 2nd Place and the Texas Champions League U16. We were very pleased to be the 2017 Texas State Cup Champions and went on to be Semi Finalist at the Regions III Championships. Additionally, I made the U-16/U17 Swedish National Team Pool in 2017 and 2018. It was a great couple of years! This year I am on the Dallas Texans U17 ECNL Team and looking forward to great things to come!
At the end of 8th Grade, I asked my parents if I could attend John Paul II High School (JPIIHS) in Plano, Texas, a College Preparatory High School rooted in the Catholic Faith. This opportunity allowed me to further develop my academics and also gave me the opportunity to play soccer for Coach Morse. I was very pleased to make the Varsity Soccer Team, where I started 11/18 Varsity games as a Freshman. I was also very honored to be the the recipient of the Varsity Scholar Athlete Award. At the same time, I was very excited to start training with Coach Matt Montayne, Goal Keeper Coach for the University of North Texas Women's Soccer Team. I have been extremely blessed to have such strong role models in my soccer and in my life.
Off the soccer field, I am busy with my school work and extra-curricular activities. I am taking all PreAP/AP courses and am very involved in the music program at JPIIHS. This year, our Marching band took 2nd Place at the State Marching Contest, winning Best Marching and Best Musical Effect. I was very honored to have a Tuba solo and my sister played the trumpet solo. This year I was selected for the 2017 All Region Band and last year, I made the 2016 All State Band. I was also invited to play with the 2016 All Region Orchestra. In the spring, 2016 and 2017, I made the Track and Field Team and competed in the women's Shot Put. In addition to athletics, I have also really enjoyed being part of numerous Christian Service opportunities, SADD, Latin Club, National Latin Honor Society, Student Council as the Communications Officer, Robotics, and working as a Referee with the Frisco Youth Soccer Association.
In my private life, I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends and being able to take time to read. I love books and collect them! I also really enjoy spending time with our family pets. We have 3 cats named Leo, Odin and Zorro, and 2 dogs , one of which is named Coco. Our other, Thorin, is our newest addition and is a 1.5 year old Bernese Mountain Dog. I'd like to say I take him for walks, but I think it's the other way around!
When you are ready to watch me play, my schedule is current and I will be updating my training and game videos. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Thanks for visiting!

JEREMY MORSE, COACH, JPIIHS GIRLS SOCCER
Athletic ability: 9/10
Leadership: 9/10
Team player: 10/10
Easy to work with: 10/10
Ability: "Sarah is tall and strong. She has safe hands and covers ground well with both low-ball diving and high balls. Sarah has also worked extremely to hard over the last two years to increase her athleticism whether it's extra training to improve her touch or extra time in the weight room to increase her vertical. "
Personality: "Sarah is a leader and she models this personality trait by making every training session, working her hardest, staying after when needed and then encouraging and directing her teammates in both practices and games. She is smart and competitive and has been a varsity captain since the spring of 2017."

MATT MONTAYNE, GOALKEEPER COACH , UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS
2016
Athletic ability: 9/10
Leadership: 10/10
Team player: 10/10
Easy to work with: 10/10
Ability: "Sarah is very athletic. Her footwork is outstanding helping her get to low driven balls in the corner as well as the upper 90. She has great power in her legs and core which help her stabilize in all aspects of goalkeeping. She is strong in the air and coming off her line. Her work rate and attitude are second to none. She pushes herself on and off the field to be the best keeper on the field at all times. Her speed is average but her explosion and footwork compensate for this making her a threat to be delt with. Sarah's hands are very good and rarely gives up rebounds or second chances, but when she does she is able to make the second save. She is explosive off her line on breakaways and holds a long barrier very well making it hard for strikers to get around her or slip a ball under. Very technically sound has a great foundation for her age and is always improving each week. I personally think she is a candidate for division 1 soccer and has the potential to play at the next level if she continues to develop at the rate she is now! "
Personality: "Sarah is a great kid with all the personality in the world. She does anything you tell her to do in training even if it is out of the norm. Sarah is open to constructive criticism and takes it and works on her game week in and week out. She is a natural born leader and controls and demands the back line well, but earns her respect from her defense. Not only on the field is she a strong leader, but off the field as well. As a student she has straight A's and involved in student council and helps out in her community. Sarah would be a great addition to any team she is on! She has a solid foundation of characteristics and attitude to go a long way. "
Ability: "Sarah is strong and has great hands. She is still growing and so she is constantly retraining her body to catch up with her size which means she has moments of great speed and agility followed by a growth spurt. Once she reaches her designed height and weight, she will be a tremendous athlete. "
Personality: "Sarah is very positive and selfless. She takes time before and after practice to work on her skills and fitness. Sarah is also growing into a leadership role where she communicates effectively on the field with her teammates and is a student of the game who constantly seeks new ways to limit mistakes."
